Woke up after noon, lamenting the collapse of my early-rising habit, and worked at a café in Penang. My mood plummeted because of the staff's attitude, and I realized that people love those who make them feel valued. A lesson from the night my stomach was ruined by Fish & Chips.

I ended up waking up past 12 again today. I wonder if my body is just meant to wake up after noon. I had finally gotten into the habit of waking at 8 AM on Koh Tao, so I felt a little sad wondering why I slipped back. Once I get lazy I quickly end up waking at noon. I keep thinking how much better life would be if I could wake up early in the morning.

The presence of the staff influences my mood.

Today was a work day. I actually wanted to go to Penang National Park, but I wasn't feeling well and it didn't seem likely. Even if I had Pocari Sweat in that jungle, I thought I couldn't keep going if I got that exhausted after just walking 6 km like yesterday. So I decided to stay at a cafe and work through the remaining tasks.

Today's cafe was nicely busy and orders were placed via QR code. The atmosphere was pretty good, but the staff weren't pleasant, so it was a big letdown. When the staff are nice my mood really lifts, and that made me realize how important the presence of the staff really is.

Whether I decide to buy something can depend on how pleasant the staff are. Humans are emotional creatures, and we grow fond of people who satisfy our self‑esteem. That's human nature. So you must never forget this: satisfy someone's self‑esteem — in other words, treat them with care.

The chicken curry was delicious, but...

I ordered chicken curry, a matcha sandwich, and lemonade. The flavors were really tasty — it was great. But I was sad because the staff were really unpleasant.

I kept working and before I knew it it was 8 PM. I thought there was no point going to another restaurant from here, so I decided to order dinner at this place.

Ordering was by QR code, so when I scanned it it had timed out and I asked a staff member, "Could you issue a new QR code?" But minutes went by and no one came, so I thought maybe they forgot or misread it. I got a bit annoyed, so I went to another staff member and asked them to issue a QR code.

For dinner I ordered Fish & Chips. As soon as I started eating, I felt full. Partway through I started feeling sick — it was like, "huh?"

My stomach hasn't been in good shape lately, and I realized it's because I've been eating nothing but fried food. So I took off the batter and ate only the fish. But I didn't find it very tasty. That was very disappointing. In the end I paid about 60 ringgit and left the cafe.

Don't eat oily foods when your stomach is weak.

Just before I got to the hostel a chill hit me, and I thought, "Ah, maybe my parasympathetic nervous system is kicking in," as I headed inside. I took a shower, relaxed, took paracetamol, and went to sleep. From now on, no matter how big my appetite, I've decided I shouldn't eat oily food when my stomach is weak.
