Our lives are nothing but the blink of a firefly. So we must live life to the fullest.

Today, I want to write something a little special.

Sometimes I like to read and spend time in reflection. Today, about our civilization. I read a book and something from it has stuck in my head.

Happiness is something you create from within

We really have so many desires and egos, and that's how we live each day.

When you have a lot of desire, you can't feel happiness. Happiness is something inside; getting something doesn't automatically make you happy.

Because once you get it, you get used to it right away.

Humans are creatures that adapt. In other words, happiness felt from external factors is only momentary.

I realize again: being able to pass my days like this without illness. That is nothing other than happiness. Eating every day, talking with people. That alone really feels like enough.

Happiness comes from within. That's what I think.

The blink of a firefly

And there's a part of that that really struck me.

We're only a tiny part. We're nothing more than a firefly's blink.

The Earth — let alone the universe — has existed for hundreds of billions of years, but we're only a tiny fraction of that. We live for just a moment.

Sure, there may be people like Van Gogh who leave works behind for future generations or make their mark on history. But if you think about it, in 2,000 years it might be like, "Oh yeah, weren't there people called Japanese? Yeah, I've heard of them," and that's about it.

And what's more, the Earth might already be destroyed.

Thinking about that, each one of us humans is really only a very small existence.

Life is just a game

Which means, life is nothing but a game, isn't it?

Take it more lightly. Rather than worrying about having no regrets, go beyond that. Do what you want to do and live as you like. I think you should try to stay positive all the time.

Say what you want to say.

Shy? There are lots of those people in the world, and it's fine to speak to someone on the street. That's smaller than one-millionth of a firefly's blink.

Express yourself more and more, and don't hold back with small things like being reserved; keep conveying what you want to say.

Life really is fleeting, and things like the embarrassment or mistakes you make now — in ten years the only person who will remember may be me, and after I'm dead they won't even exist anymore.

So in the end, it's not something to be ashamed of.

It's just a game. Challenges are just a game.

What are we living for?

People who work at the same company and end their lives there. What, really, are they living for? It makes you want to ask.

We're not living to work; we're living against entropy. In other words, we're afraid of dying.

Humans will die if they do nothing. Yet there are clothing, food, and shelter. Eating, sleeping, leaving descendants. By these things, we somehow fight against entropy, desperately trying to leave our genes and survive.

Why go to university? Why eat? Why make friends? Why travel? Why read books?

In the end, the final goal of all of it is "not to die."

That's really true. If you go to university, you can get a higher-paying job. If you have more money, you can buy enough food, so you can avoid death.

Making friends is to avoid loneliness, and through meetings and discoveries you avoid being mentally cornered. Reading books is trying to survive better by acquiring knowledge.

After all, attraction to someone or seeking social success — it's all instincts to maintain life. Unconsciously, we keep making choices to survive.

So set it on fire

I've gone off on a tangent, but we're such tiny beings.

Think again about how you always get anxious before taking action, about not being able to say what should be said.

Life is just a moment, and nothing remains afterward.

Then why not fully enjoy the present?

Be more positive. Don't think about small things like holding back or reading the air — go at it more aggressively.

That's when true life will be burning.
